Events

DC Listening Lounge believes in shared audio experiences. We've dubbed our events "Sound Scenes"—they are part instalation, part listening lounge, and part experimental music performance.

Currently no events are planned, but we aim to do more in the future. Read about our past events below.

Sound Scene II: Cartographies and Confessionals, March 1, 2008

DC Listening Lounge presented SOUND SCENE II: CARTOGRAPHIES AND CONFESSIONALS on March 1, 2008 at La Casa, in DC's Mt. Pleasant neighborhood.

An audio map of DC featured site-specific vignettes and recordings from around the city and beyond. Points on the map included Killing Is the Easy Part where a couple of city kids decide to cut the middleman out of their food chain and kill their own dinner—five fresh Maryland chickens—themselves; and Anacostia Park: Bodies and Bald Eagles where a National Park employee shared some of his extreme sightings.

Live music and sound art performances occured throughout the evening. Sean Peoples and Layne Garrett are among DC’s most active sound artists. Their work melds melodies of traditional instruments with found sounds. At SOUND SCENE II they led a collective of local musicians and sound artists, including Equinox, Caroline Mayorga, All Violet, and Black Snake in the Daisy Patch.
