The Public Broadcast Cart

In September 2003, the citizens of NYC were introduced to a new form of broadcasting…via grocery cart. The Public Broadcast Cart is a project to further the open access of the airwaves, delivering the megaphone direct to you avec wheels. As its creators state, “As the government and the FCC seek to hand over our media resources to the wealthiest corporate media entities looking to monopolize the media from print to television to radio, it is up to independent producers to subvert big money domination of our culture.” Well, you’ve got your marching orders, now get to it! The site includes a how-to on constructing your own personal cart, plus video and sound of the cart in action. Among its travels, this summer the cart vacationed at the Sonambiente Festival in Berlin, where it encountered French Horns and World Cup fans.
